Empowering Market Leaders to Decarbonize the Built Environment

Sustento Group designs and implements programs at the intersection of project development and finance, focusing on practical solutions that can be deployed in the real world.

Our Approach

Program Design & Implementation

We research and document the connections between building retrofits and health outcomes, focusing on communities disproportionately affected by climate change and environmental injustice. We partner with academic institutions like UCLA Luskin School to quantify benefits and develop frameworks that assign economic value to wellbeing.

Capacity Building

We support pilot projects that generate tangible, real-world experience by working directly with community-based organizations and affordable housing providers. These projects serve as learning laboratories where we define business models for key markets and document best practices for replication.

Financing Technical Assistance

We facilitate partnerships between community groups, financial institutions, utilities, and government agencies to bridge divides between policy, finance, and implementation. Through programs like our Retrofit LA Cohort, we develop integrated solutions that cross traditional boundaries.

Recent Programs

  • Supporting the Comprehensive Affordable Multifamily Retrofit (CAMR) Program, funded by LADWP, with application processing and financial technical assistance.

  • Led Los Angeles to become the #1 Energy Star City, with the largest Better Buildings commitment in the nation.

  • Supporting capital provider engagement and project referrals to accelerate building decarbonization.

  • Working with state and local government agencies to align resources and create scalable financing solutions for climate resilience.
